Asia's reps get first look at IEM Cologne Major opening matches

The IEM Cologne Major is just a fortnight away for the bulk of our Asia representatives who will kick off affairs in Stage 1 — and their opening matchups are now locked in.

ESL announced the first round head-to-heads for Stage 1 of the major late on May 21. With the opening two rounds purely best-of-ones, each team will need to be on their A-game from the get-go; an early mishap means more time spent fighting through elimination best-of-threes later in the week.

FlyQuest will open their Cologne campaign against SINNERS. FQ enter the major fresh off their poor performance at Asian Champions League in Shanghai.

Worse still, this will just be the squad's sixth event of the year; in comparison, SINNERS has attended five LANs and partaken in 11 separate online tournaments and qualifiers, all against varying tiers of European opposition.

Reigning DFRAG champs THUNDER dOWNUNDER will meet their first offline non-Asian opponent in MIBR. The Brazilian outfit has enjoyed a successful domestic season, with their efforts at qualifiers seeing them attend PGL Bucharest in April and CAC 2026 in May.

ACL champs Lynn Vision will face North American outfit M80, while TYLOO has a tough day one against B8. The Ukrainian team has been in scintillating form of late as the build-up to the major continues, while TYLOO has looked shaky after a rollercoaster set of events on home soil.

Fifth Asia qualifier The MongolZ will enjoy a good two weeks in Cologne to prepare as they await in Stage 3. Prep will be needed from Asia's top squad whose season took a turn for the worse in May after a bottom eight defeat at PGL Astana.

Three wins will be needed for progression to Stage 2 — qualification is vital for our Asia squads as future spots at the "home" PGL Singapore Major are up for grabs.

Stage 1 of the IEM Cologne Major kicks off June 2.
